Where do I start... It was awful. From the service to the non smoked oven baked dry ribs. The texas toast was stale , the cole slaw was tasteless. The meal took for ever to only come out cold..Even my bud light beer was bad (it was 6 months old and skunked). The couple behind us was complaining because they had a beer spilled on them. The "manager" went to their table defending that the staff dint spill beer on him. She was very loud and rude to the customer. I should have read the bad reviews befor I went there..

The lamb ribs are absolutely out of this world may not be PC these days but it's true. The coleslaw is the best around. I preferred with no onions and that's just the way they have it. Ask for the cottage fries well-done. Have to mention the broasted chicken. It's crispy, not greasy, tender and delectable. The ribs are great too and that is what I used to order every time I went there until I discovered lamb ribs a year ago. Now I can't get enough. Pretty much everything you get there is going to be good

Decided to come here for some ribs. Worst decision ever. On entrance we had a good first impression. Large sign, nice branding, busy parking lot. We had high hopes. We ordered beef ribs, and barbecue chicken with salad and sides of fries. The barbecue chicken was pretty good, but was served to us slightly cold. The beef ribs were absolutely ubedible in our opinion. We had to send them back. We sent the beef ribs back and got an order of fried chicken. The chicken took 20 minutes to come out and was EXTREMELY dry. Not to mention the bathrooms were filthy. I could only imagine how disgusting the kitchen was. I'm here In Michigan on vacation and hoped to have some good barbecue. Were avid rib eaters and this is By far the worst experience we've ever had.

I have been going to Boneyard for years. I am not a big fan of the ribs but most of the other food is very good and a good value. I love their coleslaw. I have it with a nice thick slice of grilled bread. It is some of the best I have had and they give you a nice size serving of coleslaw. The boneyard burger is over 1 lb and I can make this into 3 meals. Price is something like $6. Awesome deal and they load up the potatoes with it as well. I have also had the bar-b-q chicken which is also good. The ribs are OK but not the best. I did try the lamb ribs once and I did not like them at all. Sticking to the other items is the best here.

The ribs here are absolutely wonderful! They are full of flavor! The chicken is also delicious. The food is 5 stars but the service is a little slow at times depending on the server. Everyone is friendly, there are TVs so you can watch the game and you never get rushed. Great little BBQ place :)

Everything (food, drinks, service) was just mediocre. I don't typically add salt/pepper to my food but was dumping it on everything here. Would not go back...there are MUCH better restaurants to get BBQ. If you're looking for great BBQ, go to SLOWS in Detroit.

I'm not sure what's going on with this place... They're empty every time I go in. They've been around since I was little, so this restaurant has been a main staple in my diet for over 20 years. The food still seems to be the same quality-- even though I only eat the broasted chicken breasts. The ribs are good as well. I love the fries with my chicken. And their BBQ sauce.... to. die. for! This isn't the "they smoke it themselves" kinda restaurant. I'm pretty sure it's all previously smoked and baked in the restaurant. The staff really is awful at this restaurant though. They're too busy talking amongst themselves to bother coming back and asking if you need a refill or anything else.

When I visited Boneyard BBQ the location was not too busy. I figured that this was because it was a Monday afternoon- a time when a lot of people are still at work. I ordered beef ribs (4 bones) , which came with a baked potato, garlic bread and tossed salad. I was stuffed by the second bone-The ribs were very meaty, and weren't "fall off the bone" tender nor tough. The BBQ sauce was great. It had a tangy but sweet taste to it, which I prefer with barbecue sauce. I didn't have a bad experience here and I would probably come back to try something different on the menu. My family had been coming to the Boneyard for 40 years. Exception ribs and sauce! The potatoes are generous and the bread is fantastic. Every time we have guests in town we take them to the Boneyard. You will not leave the Boneyard hungry.

I have been going to this place for over 20 year. However, I think it's more of a nostalgic thing, than a love of the food. Over the years, ownership of this place has changed. In doing so, the restaurant decor has been updated, but the quality of service has gone way down. I was here last week and after taking our orders, our waitress basically disappeared. Also, she failed to clean any of the empty dishes even after bringing us the main course. That said; the cottage fries and garlic bread are things I will always crave. The ribs are not the kind that slide off the bone. It's like severely underdone beef jerky, so you are forced to really gnaw on the bone. They are not for everyone, but I dig them. As long as these items don't change, I will continue to patronize this place; bad service or not.

I'm im my 60's and grew up in the area. When I was a teenager, the Boneyard on Telegraph Rd. was a dining mecca for rib lovers, especially if you prefer a slightly chewier meat versus fall-off-the-bone ribs, which I've grown to prefer. But the Boneyard on Orchard Lake Road, to put it politely, was awful. The ribs were OK but the barbecue sauce tasted like, and probably was, Open Pit. Gimme a break! In the back of my mind I can hear Chef Ramses screaming at the owners, "What the (bleep) do you think you're doing! " With so many good to great restaurants in the area I wouldn't waste my hard earned cash at this place.

I hadn't tryed Boneyard in years. Decided to get a rib dinner. Probably the worst ribs I've ever had. No flavoring and you litteraly feel like a dog trying to chew meat of the bones. How can a restaurant serve such crappy food. I agree with one reviewer about rating the McRib higher then the Boneyard and I think the Mcrib is good, not like the garbage boneyard served me.

There are a few Boneyard locations locally. This one is convenient for me. This place specializes in Broasted Chicken and Ribs. They have more of course, but folks go here for those item more than anything else. I take out from this location too and I find myself over-ordering and eating the leftovers for a few days after. They recently added Beef and Lamb ribs too. The salads, the coleslaw and the potatoes are good and then there is the ubiquitous Texas Toast.

So...I love BBQ. I was excited about this place. I was let down. My wife and I went into the Boneyard after hearing, from a number of people, that it was pretty good. We were disappointed. After trying some basics to some of their more unique items over a couple of visits, I was universally let down. The service was poor from go. The place was not crowded, and yet we waited. The general ambiance was nice enough, but a closer look revealed that a bit of dark was not bad to hide what looked like a less then well-kept store. The table was clean so we proceeded. First, this is not a BBQ place. They do BBQ but it was not the focus, and that was disappointing. The ridiculous selection of straight out of the freezer appetizers was a let down...cheese sticks, potato skins, etc...come on. They were good...but, I could've had the same start at Champs. The rest of the meal went the same way. There was nothing special about this that made it BBQ...which, given the title, was what was expected. You could get everything from chicken tenders to a NY Strip steak...and the items that are BBQ were done poorly. The pulled pork was ok, but tasted as though it had spent it's better days under the heat lamp drying out and the the pork/beef Big Bone Yard burger was plenty big...but, lacked a flavor worth writing home about. It was a bit like eating Spam...which though a tasty treat for some, was not what this guy was looking for. In any case...it was a disappointing experience.

Mother's Day is one of the busiest days in the restaurant industry and this place has 3 servers working. We sat down and there were 4 other tables yet no one came to our table for almost 10 minutes. 15 minutes later we got drinks and an order of pickles. The fried pickles are okay at best. They are large flat slices that are hard to manage and the breading falls off as soon as you cut into them. After a 45 minute wait for 2 sandwiches we had to leave as our son was done with being there. I did try the cole slaw, it's just cabbage and watered down mayo, very bland. Atmosphere is kinda dingy and dark. It's like stepping into a place from the 80's. We got our food to go and hoped for the best. The fish sandwich was standard. The bun was so stale I couldn't bite into it, but the fish was good. My husband had the pulled pork and was very disappointed. The pork had a burned crust and not much flavor beyond that. He also tried the beans which the server described as "spicy". What she should have said was they taste like a can of black pepper smells. The sauce is just the Detroit style BBQ sauce that's tangy and kinda like Russian dressing. This is not a southern BBQ by any means. If you want something good try Slows or Lockharts, they are worth driving for. If you are hungry and in the area like we were, go to across the street to McDonalds/CPK/Max and Erma's, save yourself the time and you'll have a much better meal.

After living in California for 3+ years, I was really looking forward to returning to Michigan to experience some good old mid-west hospitality. Another thing we really missed in NorCal was really good barbeque. Ugh - I've had enough "tri-tip" to last a life time. Notice to Californians: It's NOT good! My boyfriend lived in Farmington Hills about 6 years ago and remembered this place having excellent BBQ. So, he took me there our first night in town with high hopes. The first thing I noticed was the awards hanging on the walls: Best of metro Detroit - 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005. The next thing I noticed was how long we stood there without being helped. The guy behind the bar just looked at us. He didn't motion for someone to seat us and finally a waitress came over and took us to a booth. Then, the waiting started. We waited for our water, for our order to be taken, for our salads which came out with the wrong dressing. But, mostly we waited nearly an HOUR for our dinner. They were NOT very busy, but it looked like only 2 servers were manning the entire dining room. Fail. The table next to us was a group of older people who got fed up with waiting (even less time than we had) and went to ask what was going on. In lieu of an apology they were told the restaurant was "busy" - when the guy gestured to the half empty dining room, the manager told him they were busy with "to go orders." Personally, I think your priority should be your dining room guests, but that might just be me. The food, when it arrived was mediocre at best. Granted, it was better than anything we had in Cali, but I got turned off but the individually wrapped butter and sour cream that came with the baked potato. It's obvious to me that this place is still riding on the success of 5 years ago. I did notice that the awards stopped coming in 2005. I think the BF was a bit sad, since he had good memories of the place. I'm convinced we can find better food and definitely better service elsewhere in greater Detroit.

Ever the barbecue adventurer, I was excited when my boss suggested we visit this restaurant during a recent work assignment in Southfield. I'm always game to try a new restaurant, and knowing the quality of local barbecue is something I'm trying to get better at. We walked in during lunch and were immediately met with stares and silence. No one came to seat us despite the Please Wait To Be Seated sign, and four guys at the bar just kept looking at us. Finally a bartender came out, brought us to the empty dining room (at noon on a Tuesday I may add) and we looked at the menu. It was then I put it together: I had been to another Boneyard further South (Wayne? Westland?) and I realized that I was in yet another quantity driven barbecue restaurant. The last time I was at a Boneyard I had an enormous hamburger that was burnt and gross, so I figured I should play it safe and just get ribs, something that no barbecue restaurant can screw up. Or so you'd think. Come to find out, the ribs were dry (practically crispy), the sauce was like ketchup, and the sides weren't that hot either. Only the coleslaw tasted good at all. The service was acceptable once we actually got a waiter, but the atmosphere was creepy in that "You ain't from around here" way, which is simply WEIRD in a Farmington Hills restaurant. The portions were enormous, almost ridiculous, but the quality of the food was almost uniformly low. I just do not agree with the positive reviews here, but I guess if you like thick, sweet sauce and dry barbecue, this is your place.

My husband and I tried out this placed for dinner a few weeks ago. It is definitely a family restaurant- louder noise level and big parties with children, though their bar is pretty good. The food was pretty inexpensive and I actually was impressed with the BBQ. I really enjoyed the flavoring of it. We will be back here again for a casual meal.

David and I look for enjoyable dining experiences. This was not one of them. We read the other reviews and thought we'd give it a try since everyone seemed to love it. On the positive: price couldn't be beat. My two piece dark meat broasted chicken, baked potato, salad and garlic bread was $6.95 and the service was fine. The dinner was okay too for the price. No lines at 7 PM on a Friday night (wondered why right from the start.) On the dark side: I've never seen a chicken leg or thigh so small in my life! Each had two bites of meat. KFC serves bigger pieces of chicken than this place. But what do we want for $6.95, right? David ordered the half a BBQ chicken and even though the meat was tender, neither of us really cared for the sauce that much. David and I both thought it was odd when the waiter delivered our salad and assumed he forgot the dressing until he pulled two squirt bottles of dressing out of his apron and set them on the table. Then he forgot the sour cream for the potatoes and came back with little single serving, prepackaged tablespoons of sour cream. Made us wonder if we'd ordered fries if he's have given us ketchup packets. It was just all very odd! But as soon as our food was served and the waiter walked away, I said to David, "We're not coming back." And he just laughed and said, "I know. You just beat me at saying it." This restaurant suffers from the "good enough syndrome". It could be so much more if they cared even a little about what they were serving but they think it's good enough. We wont be back.

    A. Great barbecue sauce B. Cheap C. Enormous sized portions D. Delicious This place has it all... good food, unusually good prices, and a nice atmosphere. The staff is always pleasant. I like most of the items I've tried, except for the steak. Boneyard is a barbecue place, not a steak house. I suggest the chicken breast, ribs, or the sandwiches. The portions are so large with some dishes that even the biggest eaters will have trouble finishing their plates. For the average eater, you should consider sharing because you'll get more than enough food, and the cost will end up being the same as a fast food value meal. With twice the flavor and three times the quality, though, you'll never want to go to Mickey D's again!

Dirty, dirty, dirty carpet and restrooms, tables and chairs are sticky and gross!! Ribs are just good not great. Salad ALWAYS has brown lettuce. Cottage fries dipped in BBQ sauce are great. Fried shrimp is scrumptious but I only carry out because as I said it is too dirty to sit in the restaurant.

Oh my my... The place seemed to be very dark on the inside and quiet but we were hungry so we give this place a shoot. I guess when we walked in and saw only one couple we should've took the hint - the waitress took so long that we just ending up leaving. On top of that - someone came in after us and their order was place and was already served water for their wait. (Ugh!) My BF didn't want to be rude about the situation - so we just took our business else where.

Used to be my go to place for decades, but the quality has gone way down. The ribs are dry and disgusting. My parents had ribs that were raw in the center last time. Bread was stale and dry.

It's been a few years since we "tried" to carry out from here. Horrible experience doesn't quite describe just how bad the service and food was. My kids refer to it as the Yankees and said that they should name Yankee stadium "boneyard stadium" after this place. Keep in mind our family members are major Tiger's fans.

After a long day out in the heat with the family, I was too tired to cook and decided to grab carry out, and had a craving for ribs. Bad decision. Ordered the whole slab for two with "cottage fries," which are just sliced potatoes deep fried with zero salt or flavor. My kids wouldn't even eat them. What they call buffalo wings were the saddest tiny deep fried to hell things ever, and I'm pretty sure that wasn't buffalo sauce on the side. I had to use my own Franks wing sauce. The ribs...the first thing that came to mind after I opened the box was "WTF is this?" They were somehow fatty, yet dry at the same time and there was no way you could eat them without a sharp knife. I took a few bites and gave up. Wish I had checked out the online reviews before I wasted my time and money here. It was dinner time and the place was deserted as well.

If you don't smell smoke then there is no BBQ going on! Ribs were baked and under-cooked and not done in a smoker. BBQ sauce was likely the cheapest store bought they could fine. I would not be surprised if ribs were precooked then heated and finished on a grill. Potatoes were just a greasy mess of pealed fried sliced potatoes. All the food was flavorless and the wait staff was below par. Our waitress spent most of her time texting on her phone. We won't be going back. Ever, ever, ever, ever. Never!

  • Gary J.

The food was pretty good. I had the BBQ chicken and it was cooked perfectly. The "garlic bread" had no garlic flavor, just a slightly grilled piece of bread. The reason for the two stars, is that the place was filthy and in need of repair. We were first seated in a booth that had food still on the seats, so we moved to another table. All of the tables were sticky and not cleaned properly. We watched a bus boy clean a table next to us and he left dirty napkins scattered on the floor underneath along with some plastic containers. Really disgusting. The decor has been very neglected in the restaurant. Booth seats were ripped and dirty. The carpet had many rips and tears and was dirty too. We enjoyed the food, but the cleanliness and condition of the restaurant is barely a one star.

So I came here with my friend. He has been claiming this place forever. We were on the way to a burger place and after passing bone yard he wouldn't shut up and made me come here. As we walked in the lady was on a phone call and asked someone else to seat us. Which I thought was kinda rude. The place could use a little bit of deep cleaning and the carpets seem sticky and gross walking in and under the tables. The bathroom can use a bit of updating. There is only one server. He seems to be hustling. So no complaint with service. I ordered a 1/2 chicken and ribs combo. Came with a salad and I got The creamy garlic dressing. The dressing was great but was Just a little bit watery. The lettuce was shredded to a point where you can't pick it up with a fork. My food came out and looked great. I don't think it was the best BBQ. I have had way better. I BBQ at home everyday and even in the winter time so I'm not saying it mine is better. But I would rather eat it at home.

THE WORST MEAL I'VE EVER HAD! Started with the salad, I had ranch dressing it tasted old & sour as did the ketchup I used for the terrible fries. Their cottage fries had no flavor & were so greasy we had to send them back. Service was slow & we were the only ones in there. I would never recommend this place, I believe they reuse a lot of things to save a buck!!!

Everytime me and my brother eat here, we always end up full and satisfied of our barbecue craving. The place isn't usually packed but don't let it fool you. The food can speak for itself. Usually I get the Whole Slab for two between me and my brother which is about 14-16 ribs total. I love them! They're slightly chewy and you can really taste the meat of the rib. The sauce is slightly tangy and its got a little zip to it. But I love it so much. I guess one bad thing is the sides aren't much to write home about. The sides are cottage or waffle fries, bake potatoes, french fries. I wish they had macaroni and cheese or sweet potatoes but hey, the ribs are making up for it. If i can't get to Slows BBQ in corktown, im going here second.

Pulled pork sandwich is decent. My girlfriend and I shared a rack of ribs once and were not impressed. I was actually sorry I brought her there after I had talked about it's reputation of being so great. Ribs were fatty, had the membrane left on and we're burnt on the bottom and short end. She told me the Babyback ribs I get from Kroger and season/cook myself are much better.

I'm pretty sure this is just called "The Boneyard", but whatever. This restaurant is probably my favorite. Most of the staff know my order before I even open my mouth, and I love them for it. Their portions are huge. If you are hungry and somewhat frugal, I highly recommend the Boneyard Burger which is a 1lb of meat on two HUGE slices of bread with fries and cole slaw. My friends and I often go in and share their chicken breast dinner. Two big pieces of bbq chicken breast, fries, bread and a salad for $11. It's delicious! Most of their entrees come with salad or cole slaw and fries or baked potato. Their staff is nice and friendly, which makes me love this place even more. Their ribs have also been voted best of Detroit by various organizations plenty of times. I don't like ribs, but if you want some... I definitely recommend this place.

Don't come here if you're looking for "fall-off-the-bone," boiled goo, Chili's babyback ribs (with BBQ sauce). Also, let's be clear: this is a no-frills rib joint that doesn't have the air of pretension that more trendy, recently-established places have. Do come here if you like meaty, tasty ribs with texture that can feed an army for cheap. You'll pay $20 for 15 or so ribs, plus Texas toast garlic bread, coleslaws, and cottage fries (which are usually a good mix of soft and crispy pieces), all of which goes together well with the ample amount of tangy, delicious BBQ sauce in squeeze bottles at every table. My wife and I always leave with a full meal's worth of left-overs for both of us just from this one order. The broasted chicken is also quite good and the kids menu is bountiful and well-priced - my boy enjoys it all. The ribs are five-star worthy hands down, but I drop the overall restaurant rating down a star because I do think some of the criticism is deserved: the menu lacks diverse sides and the service can be inexplicably slow at times, but is usually quite friendly. That said, you won't regret coming here if you love ribs.

This is one of the first rib places I went to when I moved to the area. It is a popular place, but there weren't many other options in the suburbs. With the increase in smaller and more BBQ focused places, I think the Bone Yard needs to step up their game. So, big menu, lots of choices. specializing in ribs and broasted chicken, but they do offering other options. It can be a popular place, especially on a Friday night. We typically go with the ribs for two, which comes with a rack of ribs, home fires, coleslaw and Texas toast. The ribs are good, but they can be inconsistent, juicy and dry, and the ribs come with sauce on them, but they also have a bottle of their sauce on the table. The sauce is decent, similar to Open Pit, but its only one sauce. The home Fires are probably the best option (you can order regular fires or baked potato) , they are thick potato chips, and if you get a thin and crispy one, its like a kettle chip. So, what's wrong with it? First of all the entire restaurant needs a good cleaning - it just feels greasy. From the tables, to the chairs, to the menus. Also, service can be spotty, it always seem to take a long time to get your order. It is also a dark place.

Came here after looking around the Orchard Lake area for dinner. I haven't been here in years, so we decided to reconnect with my memories. My memories have failed me. We had the ribs for 2, which comes with potatoes and texas toast. ribs is pretty much what i'll comment on as that's the main part of the dish. The ribs are good if you like to work for your bites, which I don't mind. I'll give the food a 3 because i've had better bbq elsewhere. Now, i'll drop it down a star because the service was really slow. Food came out at a decent time. But after we received our food and finished eating, nobody came to check on us for refill's. We wanted to leave and didn't see our waitress anywhere. Sad part is, this place wasn't busy. There were only 6 other patrons. We had to ask another waitress to get our check. So when we finally got our check, it was about 30-40 minutes after we finished eating. Ribs are ok if you like tougher bites in your ribs. If you want fall off the bone, this isn't the place. Service leaves a little to be desired. i honestly kept picturing a camera crew and Robert Irvine coming into this place.

Scott W's review is pretty spot on...great coleslaw. And, while I didn't have the burger, I enjoyed their BBQ chicken as well. Their bbq sauce is more of a Carolina style, sweet and vinegary. It may be too sweet for some, but I enjoyed it. So why the bad review...? 1) Some of the worst ribs I've ever had. Tasted like they had been slowly cooked until all of the moisture and juice had evaporated out of them. Then, to add insult to injury, they were thrown on a grill at the last minute to become even drier. By the time they reached my plate they were so leathery and inedible, you could barely cut them with a knife. Now I don't believe that ribs need to taste like they're falling off the bone. But I do believe you should be able to distinguish the bbq from the bone. These ribs really fell short. 2) Service was basically non-existent and only there when they had to be. No water refills. No suggestively up-selling drinks from the bar, or suggesting appetizers. No pre-bussing tables. Zero working together to help each other's tables out. To put it lightly, we sat at a round table, somewhat close to the bar and basically most of the staff (on a friday night mind you!) stood around the drink station talking to themselves and completely ignoring the floor. If I needed anything, I'd have to flag it down. And, at some points, I was almost ready to order and run my own drinks from the bar. Our table of four probably would have spent $20-$30 more in appetizers and beer had they been a little bit more attentive. We sat next to a table where a family had just finished eating at. For about 10 minutes out of one eye we had the view of dirty dishes and out of the other eye the view of waitstaff "hanging out" and basically standing around. Not a great dining experience. Our server was taking care of a table on a completely opposite end of the restaurant and seemed like she was in a pretty long conversation with them most of the night. Not a huge deal, but if the staff is going to allow patrons to sit where they like and then take tables in an equal manner, so that sections don't exist, they should do a better job of working as a team to make sure each table has everything they need. I.e. water refills, napkins, etc. I will say that at the end of the meal the server asked if we liked our ribs--and we were very honest about not liking them--she did try to do the right thing by knocking 10% off our bill. But, the truth is, we weren't really looking for a deal. Especially because we would have spent a lot more that night. And, had she checked in sooner (instead of when we were finally done) we might have ordered something else.

my Husband ordered from here, our favorite rib place. Things have changed. Sauce is different. Takeout was poor, I used to love this place for years. Will try again but I make better ribs and I really am a bad cook.

Visited the Bone Yard with family on Memorial Day, and the meal was NOT memorable. The service was slow, with a diffident young waitress who seemed to know nothing about the food. The place is dreary and need to be updated; the restroom was a mess. The ribs were meaty but chewy and slightly undercooked. The barbecue sauce tastes like it comes out of a bottle. The pulled pork sandwich was forgettable. My cousin ordered ribs and chicken, and they forgot the chicken until the end of the meal. I won't be returning.
